The Last Samurai is a story of a Japanese businessman's trip to Africa to search for home of his ancestors. It is a psychological journey for him as well as a physical search for evidence. The businessman works in a modern world, but embraces the philosophy of the ancient Samurai beliefs. He hires a former Vietnam veteran, now a mercenary, to fly his party to join a friend and his wife in a personal enclave in the African bush. There they meet Bill Armstrong who is to be their safari guide. The group is quickly involved in the local political struggle, as the friend whose camp they are staying at has been selling weapons to each side. One group decides to take control of the weapons source, and the group is kidnapped. While at first glance this movie would seem to be a straightforward search for archeological evidence, it really is about the inner explorations we much all make to determine who we are and where we are going.
Duncan Regehr plays Bill Armstrong.
