What the RCA title means...
The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts was founded in 1880. It was established under the patronage of Princess Louise and the then Governor General, the Marquess of Lorne, to distinguish Canada's most accomplished artists. The RCA awards only those visual artists or designers who have demonstrated the highest excellence, and honors their achievement by the designation "RCA." The RCA determines selection from several artistic disciplines: painting, sculpture, illustration, photography, architecture, film making, graphic design, textile design, print making, set and costume design.
The full privileges, insignia and diploma was conferred upon Duncan Regehr at a formal ceremony in May 2000 under the patronage of Her Excellency, the Governor General of Canada, Adrienne Clarkson, and of the Lieutenant Governors of Ontario and Quebec. As an appointed academician, Duncan is entitled to add the appellation "RCA" to his name.
